Sapporo is a great place to visit because it is both a major city and home to a wondrous natural environment and a variety of tourist attractions. Here, you can read about a few of the primary attractions near the hotel.
01.Sapporo Clock Tower
Built in 1878, it is the oldest standing clock tower in Japan. It looks today exactly how it did when it was built and the clocks actually work. The large clock with four faces was made by E. Howard & Co. of Boston, USA, and run on a mechanical clock works driven by weights.
02.Odori Park Sapporo TV Tower
Standing 147.2 m tall, the Sapporo TV Tower is the symbol of Odori Park. It has an observation deck some 90 m above ground, from which you can enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of the city with the distant Teine Mountains and Ishikari Bay. Extending out from the foot of the tower is the green-rich Odori Park, which in winter hosts White Illumination and the Sapporo Snow Festival.
With some 4,500 restaurants, bars and clubs, Susukino is one of the three biggest entertainment districts in Japan north of Tokyo and northward.
04.Former Hokkaido Government Office Building
Known as the "redbrick building," this building was established in an American neo-baroque style in 1888. Its lush green yard strikes viewers as an oasis. It is open to the public because inside is the Hokkaido Municipal Library, which includes a collection of old documents and literature on Hokkaido.
Both sides of this alleyway in Susukino are lined with noodle shops. It is an excellent place for getting a delicious bowl of ramen noodles, and the menu is vast from the standard fare made with miso, soy sauce or salt-based stock to diverse selections featuring crabs, scallops, corn, butter and other locally sourced products from Hokkaido.
06.Sapporo Central Wholesale Market
The market itself consists of numerous vendors, brokers and operators and can be quite lively at times with the calls of merchants resounding about the facilities. It is a popular destination amongst both locals and visitors because of the super fresh marine and farm products that are delivered everyday from across Hokkaido. This is definitely the place to visit if looking for souvenirs from Hokkaido.
07.Sapporo Beer Museum
This redbrick building is of great historic value in that it retains the same look it had when Hokkaido was first being settled and developed. Moreover, it is the only museum in Japan dedicated to beer. The museum features a wide array of exhibits and visual information, amongst which is a very impressive 6.1 m wide copper that was actually used at Sapporo Beer's second brewery adjacent to the museum. In the tasting halls, you can try (market prices) draught beer straight from the brewery.
Located roughly in the center of the city, Mt. Moiwa rises to an elevation of 531 m, giving visitors a great view of the cityscape. It is known as a treasure house of natural beauty as it is surrounded by a thick virgin forest that delights visitors all-year round with wonderful landscapes including lush greenery over spring and summer, tinted foliage in autumn and snow white veils in winter.
09.Sapporo Maruyama Zoo
The Sapporo Maruyama Zoo is one of the more prominent zoos in Hokkaido with about 800 animals and 180 species including mammals, birds, reptiles and more. It's a fun place for adults and kids alike, and busy with families and youth groups throughout the day.
This all-weather multi-purpose facility plays host to a wide range of large-scale events including sports, concerts and conventions. Interested visitors can also explore behind the scenes on the "Dome Tour."
11.Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill
Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill is a pleasant yet unexpected scenic point within the metropolis of Sapporo. It features a pastoral landscape typical of Hokkaido with herds of sheep feeding off grassy plains and a commanding view of the Ishikari Plains below.
12.Shiroi Koibito Park
Located in Miyanosawa, Nishi-ku, this theme park was created by Ishiya Co., a local chocolate and confectionery maker. Visitors can tour the factory where they make their prized Shiroi Koibito cream-filled cookies, try making confectioneries at their Cookiecraft Studio and watch the Consadole Sapporo soccer team practice at their home field and training ground.
When talking about sightseeing in Sapporo, you have to mention the Okurayama Observatory. Not only is it where the ski jumping was held but it also has a Winter Sports Museum and a fine dining restaurant specialized in lamb. So, there is fun to be had just as much in summer as in winter.
